Ecosystems
Our aim is to provide the responsible traveler with a wide choice of destinations and experiences. We are expanding our property membership to encompass all eight Eco systems enabling us to offer truly global travel opportunities. Specifically these ecosystems can be described as:
Rain and Temperate Forests (zones 1 and 2)
Forests can range from tropical moist forests, the most diverse ecosystems on earth, to mountain temperate forests. Tropical forests contain an estimated 60% of all the species on earth and represent a wildlife and ecological wonderland.
Ocean and River Basins (zones 3 and 4)
These ecosystems range from the beaches and coral reefs of Oceania and the Caribbean to the wetlands of Brazil and Southeast Asia, to rivers in Africa, Europe and North America.
Mountains (zone 5)
Mountain ecosystems are often highly bio-diverse, with large numbers of endemic species. They represent one quarter of earth’s land surface and include Europe, Asia, New Zealand, North and South America.
Deserts (zone 6)
Desert ecosystems have irregular rainfall with periodic droughts lasting several years and include the USA, Morocco, Australia, Namibia, Chile and Egypt.
Savannahs (zone 7)
These ecosystems are dominated by grasses, grass like plants and woody plants. Savannahs are further characterized by periodic drought, fire and large herbivore grazing. Many African countries are dominated by this ecosystem.
Arctic & Antarctic (zone 8)
These cold regions include polar and tundra areas as well as certain high mountains and plateaus and compose 14% of the total non humid area.
Urban (zone 9)
You will find that some City Center or Urban Properties are members of EHLC. These Properties have demonstrated they have made every effort within the limitations of their locale to genuinely follow environmental and social best practices.
